During a song writing competition to Filipino music writers called Himig Handog Love Songs, Heart Evangelista was chosen to represent an entry titled "Love Has Come My Way". Her rendition won her two awards for the competition: Texter's Choice Award and Listener's Choice Award. She also won the Best Performance by a New Female Artist for the song at the 2003 Awit Awards. While the song did not win the competition, this led to a music album for Heart at the age of 17 years old.
